Despite the unseasonably warm weather, I thought it would be fun to design a winter-themed cake. I really like the idea of something stark white, with just a touch of color and a lot of silver shining through, so I dusted off the ol’ pasta machine and brought out some of my tools to get back to doing what I do best.
I started by making some gumpaste leaves and coloring them with silver luster dust. I twisted them together with some floral tape to create a few branches. Add in some light purple (although they came out more like pink) and light blue branches of gumpaste sugared berries and my winter-themed cake was done.
As for the photos, well, they’re a work in progress. I went to Costco and bought a fancy DSLR camera and while I have legitimately no idea how to use it, I am having a heck of a lot of fun pretending I do. Luckily, I signed myself up for an intro to digital photography workshop, so hopefully that will help me work out why there are so many buttons.
